Yoga literally means union. It encompasses a great many practices that bring us deeper into our bodies and more intimately in tune with our creative nature. Some of these yogic practices include:
- Asanas, these are stretches and balancing poses that, when done in time to your breath, serve to bring your awareness more deeply into your physical body. This can awaken, enliven, and clear your senses so as to heal and enhance your experience of everyday life.
- Pranayama, that is breath control. This practice serves to calm the overactive nervous system or stimulate the sluggish body/mind, depending on the specific technique applied. Learning this healing art can allow you to purposefully create or dispel heat, wind, and density within the body so as to asist in maintaining a sense calm aliveness and vibrant health.
- Meditation, this is an intentional quieting of the mind and senses. It is commonly used to access and process our deeper life experiences, which can greatly assist in the act of learning, as well as for stress reduction and maintaining clarity and peace of mind. Meditation also allows us to consciously explore the center of our individual creative reality, bringing us closer to a state of pure bliss.
- Mantras, that is chanting or voicing healing sounds both internally (silently) and outwardly in song to clear and balance the mind within the body. This simultaneously can have a balancing effect on our perception of the world around us which in turn affects how we are perceived. It is a very powerful healing tool.
Ayurvedic Yoga is the practice of applying the above techniques in ways that help to balance specific conditions, illnesses, diseases, excesses, and deficiencies that may exist within your body, mind, and lifestyle. It is recommended that the practice of Ayurvedic Yoga be used in conjunction with the wisdom of Ayurveda's lifestyle adjustments, healing spa treatments, and herbal medicines so as to create a balanced health maintenance routine that is individualized for each person and thier specific needs.
When practiced properly, Ayurvedic Yoga can greatly help you to maintain balance in body and mind as well as to enliven the internal organs and promote tissue regrowth and regeneration in cases of disease or deficiency. This can, therefore, greatly enhance your healing process and assist in the prevention of future illnesses.
